We just closed on one of the best elk hunting ranches in the country. The PLC Ranch is located in Catron County, New Mexico and is home to some of the biggest fair chase elk in the world. Many elk taken on this ranch have scored in the 375 to over 400 range. This ranch is truly a big bull mecca.
Currently, we have two ranches for sale that we would classify as having “trophy elk hunting“. We consider trophy elk hunting as having a track record of producing bulls in the 350 range. Both of our big bull ranch listings are located in the Laramie Mountains of southern Wyoming.
Our listing, the OX Ranch, is a ranch that has the rare combination of trophy mule deer and elk hunting. It is our experience that elk tend to push mule deer out, usually where you have a lot of elk there will not be a lot of mule deer. The OX Ranch however, is so large at 10,000 acres and so diverse that it maintains healthy trophy populations of both species.
Fire Creek Canyon Ranch is the other ranch for sale with a track record of monster bulls. This ranch, positioned south of Casper, Wyoming and adjoining thousands of acres of Medicine Bow National Forest, is an elk factory. The dense timber, abundant water, limited hunting activity, and mild winters help produce bulls in the 350+ range.
