Silver Mountain Ranch Colorado: One of the largest ranches in the highly scenic Cuchara Valley of southern Colorado, 15,000-acre Silver Mountain Ranch is a wildlife and horse-lover’s dream property. Stretching from the 6800-foot sweeping grasslands in the east to over 10,000 feet on the forested slopes of Silver Mountain in the west, this ranch encompasses numerous life zones that are perfectly suited for several species of big game, including elk, mule deer, pronghorn and most notably, the coveted Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep.
Fully equipped as a cattle operation, Silver Mountain Ranch can support 600 cow/calf animal units throughout the year. Approximately 300 irrigated acres fully support the cattle operation, along with two reservoirs, stock tanks, a year-round stream, windmills and well-equipped barns, corrals and other outbuildings.
Recreationally, Silver Mountain Ranch is ideally situated for both equestrian and hunting operations. A 38,000 square-foot riding arena is a showpiece on this ranch, and miles of riding are available in every direction on the ranch. The ranch has been managed carefully for hunting values, and bull elk over 350 inches are common and herds can number up to 1000 animals. Pronghorn antelope favor the grasslands, and animals of Boone and Crockett calibre can be found. Trophy mule deer over 180 inches find the pinion and juniper forest on the western part of the ranch to be an ideal year-round home. The bighorn sheep hunting unit here (S-50) is considered by many to be Colorado’s best, and trophy rams live on the rocky crags of Silver Mountain on the ranch.
